The real performance comes from a small vortex of air that it forms inside the area between the reed and bottom of the dome. This vortex of air holds the latex in the special zone once the desired tone has been reached. When that tone is reached the vortex helps hold the reed position allowing you to hold the note with ease. This is what makes domed reeds a game changer to many callers. Unique to the Wapiti line of reeds are the relief cut-outs which allow all sides of the tape to position themselves comfortably in the roof of the mouth reducing our natural gag tendencies. The Reaper uses ours thickest latex and sports a black dome. The stretch on this reed is for an all-out bugle. If you love to hammer on a reed and use aggressive challenge and lip bawl bugles then this reed was built for you!
This reed will also amaze you with clean crisp location bugles, as this was the sole purpose for this reed. It wasn’t until later that we realized how well rounded it is.
